U.S. Citizenship/Naturalization


Form N-400 is used to apply for Naturalization commonly known as U.S. Citizenship.
YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIPIF YOU ARE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGEAND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO YOU*:

• I have been a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States for at least 5 years.

• I have been a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States for at least 3 years, AND B.
I have been married to and living with the same U.S. citizen for the last 3 years, AND
my spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last 3 years.

• I am applying on the basis of qualifying military service and I am a Lawful Permanent Resident with at least 3 years of U.S. Armed Forces service and I am either on active duty or filing within 6 months of honorable discharge

Information required for N-400 Application for Naturalization:

• Your current “A”- number,
the number on your alien registration card
• Your current legal name Your current legal name is the name on your birth certificate unless it has been changed after birth by a legal action such as a marriage or court order.
• Your name exactly as it appears on your Permanent Resident Card (if different from above) Write your name exactly as it appears on your card, even if it is misspelled.
• Other names used if you have used any other names, including maiden name, list them in this section.
• Name change should you decide to change your name, you may list your new name here and it will be changed through the naturalization process.  You will have an opportunity to change your name at the time of your naturalization interview.  New name does not go in effect until you receive your Naturalization Certificate.
• Social Security number
• Date of Birth
• Date you became a permanent resident
• Country of birth
 
• Country of Nationality
the name of the country where you are currently a citizen or national.
• Citizenship of parents
• Current marital status
 
• Request for disability waiver for individuals with medial disabilities or impairment.  If you think that your disability prevents you from taking English and/or US. Government and history testes, you may request said tests waived based on your disability.*
• Form N-648
completed by your treating physician is required.  Should you incidentally omit to request a disability waiver at the time of your initial filing or become disabled while your application is pending, you may present your N-648 at the time of your naturalization interview.
• Request for Disability Accommodations
US CIS will make every reasonable effort to help applicants with disabilities complete the naturalization process.  Wheelchair accessibility and/or assistance for deaf or hearing impaired and need a sign language interpreter, US CIS will make arrangements with you to have one at your interview.
• Current Residence Address  
• Current Mailing Address if different from current residence address
• Telephone number  
• List of address for the last 5 years prepare to report every address where you have lived during the last five years, including residence outside the United States and the dates you resided at each address.
• List of jobs for the last 5 years
prepare to report all jobs that you had within the last five years, i.e. name of employer, address of employer, dates you worked at each job, and the name of you occupation.
• Travel outside the United States
prepare to report all absences from the United States, including vocation trips within the last 5 years, i.e. number of days spent outside the United States, dates of leave and return, and countries you visited.
• Current spouse
first name, last name, date of birth, date of marriage, immigration status, i.e. U.S. Citizen or Alien (include A#).
• Prior Spouse(s)
first name, last name, date of birth, date of marriage, date of divorce (annulment, death), immigration status, i.e. U.S. Citizen or Alien (include A#), current residence if known.
• All your children

first name, last name, date of birth, current place of residence (address)
• Criminal history should you have any type of criminal charge, you must be prepared to disclose it in your application.
 
Access Legal charges $50 to complete, review, and submit your N-400 Application for Naturalization.

Fees

  • Total: $675 (filing and fingerprints fees) payable to US CIS*, Through the U.S. armed forces – no fee.

* Access Legal charges $50 to complete, review, and submit your N-400 Application for Naturalization.  This fee includes assistance with any additional information that may be requested by US CIS in connection with your petition.

Law Income Individuals may be eligible for Fee Waiver associated with N-400 Application for Naturalization.  Verifications of current income and expenses are necessary in order to request Fee Waiver from US CIS.

Access Legal Services may assist with preparation and filing of Fee Waiver request.  Access Legal Does Not Guarantee Fee Waiver Approval.  The decision is made by the local US CIS.  Additional charges for preparation and submission of Fee Waiver Request apply.
